Early Ginger

I spent the next three months shooting nothing but nude photos for just about every men’s magazine out there.

During those months Jim repeatedly asked me if I was interested in shooting “commercial.” Initially I thought “yes,” toothpaste commercials would be fantastic. I quickly learned that “commercial” meant xxx-rated movies, and I wanted nothing to do with that line of work. I just wasn’t that kind of girl. I had the same stereotyped image of the kind of girl that did those kinds of movies as most people, and the image was not a pretty one. I imagined hookers, drug addicts and sleaze. Not my cup of tea. And, then I met her.

“Her” — whose name I can’t remember for the life of me — sat in a chair in front of Jim’s desk reading a script out loud. She wore a long white dress and smoked a cigarette, which was held in a long old-fashioned holder. She was beautiful. She seemed intelligent. She fascinated me, and I wanted to ask her a million questions.

I invited her to lunch to which she agreed. I asked her every question I could think of relating to the adult film business. She was open and honest and answered each of my questions truthfully.

The major points I took away from our time together were:

  • Always get cast approval, as it’s important to be turned on by whomever you are going to work with.
  • Get script approval to ensure there are no surprises when you get to the set.
  • Never do anything you’re not comfortable with or you may find yourself in a position that fucks with your head.
  • If you wake up one day and don’t want to “do it” anymore, then don’t do it.
  • Set your scene price high and stick to it — you’re worth it.
