My Friend Charlie Sheen

I’ve loved many times, but I’ve only been “in love” twice. My first love was with one of the most amazing men I’ve ever known … Charlie Sheen.

On the off chance that some of you may not have heard, Charlie announced he has HIV today, and I admire the courage that took.

Charlie Sheen & Ginger in MontanaNow, for those of you in the press for whom math seems to be a bit of a challenge, Charlie and I were together 25 years ago. According to Charlie himself, he received this awful HIV diagnosis about four years ago. Just to be perfectly clear, today I am healthy and happy.

I loved Charlie back then, and I still have love for him today. The Charlie I knew was kind, warm, loving, funny, intelligent and generous. I wish everyone could know that man.

HIV is not a joke, nor is it a punchline to some offensive comments about my friend Charlie Sheen. And shame on those of you who think for some twisted reason it’s funny. Because it’s not. I thought that we as a society had moved beyond that — beyond the stigma.

To Charlie, my utmost respect for your interview today. And all my continued best wishes for your health. If there is anything I can do to help, I’ll be there for you as always.

That’s all I have to say.

  2. So true Ginger, I was in business with the guy you perfectly described, our restaurant in Malibu. That is where me and you met and although many years have passed, those memories will always be in my heart, you and Charlie are part of those memories…..

  3. As I speak for many of us, your fans, we love you both and wish you strength in facing adversity. You have given us laughs and pleasure (and you know who did what…) but real life can be cruel, so as long as you are here in the eye of the public we will be with you.
