Recently I attended the wedding of my good friend and radio co-host Ro Dellegrazie.

When it comes to most weddings, it’s all about the bride. Ro’s wedding, however, was different in the most wonderful way. Her wedding to Chris was about both of them — together. I’ve never seen two people smile and laugh and cry so much during a wedding ceremony. It was about them as a couple, and I found it refreshing and charming. The ceremony was light-hearted yet deep and meaningful.

When it came time for the bride and groom’s first dance together as a married couple they broke out in a choreographed, beautiful, funny and upbeat dance frenzy. The 200+ guests cheered them on and then joined in the fun. I stood on the sidelines and watched, not wanting to embarrass myself — or the bride and groom — with my lack of rhythm. I have absolutely none, you see.

They also hosted an absolutely elegant dinner. The speeches by the maid of honor, the bridesmaids, the best man and the groomsmen were funny and heartfelt at the same time. All in all, it achieved “perfect wedding” status in my mind, and I left with the warm and fuzzies.

On the drive back from the wedding, naturally, I reflected on my own wedding “almosts.” I’ve been engaged nine times. … Yes, that’s what I said — nine times.
